Retirement doesn't have to be boring, expensive or across the world

Ecuador’s Emerald Coast:

Few people consider Ecuador for coastal retirement opportunities or beachfront property bargains. Yet it boasts one of the longest and most affordable stretches of breathtaking coastlines in the world. It has 2,237 kilometers of magnificent golden beaches, rugged cliffs, sleepy fishing villages, and thriving metropolitan areas. While overpriced properties are crashing in value on California’s Pacific Coast, property prices here are about to boom. But right now you can scoop up outrageous bargains on Ecuador’s Emerald Coast for as little as $35,000!

RETIRE TO CITIES BIG ON CULTURE AND ART

WHICH CITIES PUT THE BITE ON SENIORS?

We've checked out tons of International Retirement communities and cities over the past two years. Each had their pros and cons. Even places most people would consider as "living the dream" locations like Costa Rica and Mexico's coast. We traveled to Costa Rica first with the intent to purchase a beachfront home after reading glowing reports from people who live there...many who were also trying to sell their homes. We found it to be dirty in most places, and the people while friendly were always looking for a way to get that extra dollar from us. I may have started out with stars in my eyes, but after just one week, we decided Costa Rica isn't for us. AND I already speak Spanish!

Then we considered buying a Catamaran and  sailing the Carribean. It sounded wonderful. All of those little beach towns filled with color and spice was very attractive to us. We even began checking out prices. Then reality set in. Are we really the kind of people that want to live in a cramped space? Do we want the constant hassle that sailing demands? What about the internet connections in various ports? Banking? And that was just the beginning. Yes, it is a beautiful thought to live on a boat and sail the crystal clear waters of the Carribean, but to actually live on a catarman lost its appeal after only a few short weeks. Maybe renting one for a month to see how you feel about it should be done first.
